The Queen's Medical Center

The Queen's Medical Center, located in downtown Honolulu, Hawaii, is a private, non-profit, acute medical care facility. It is the largest private hospital in Hawaii licensed to operate with 505 acute care beds and 28 sub-acute beds. The medical center has more than 3,000 employees and over 1,200 physicians on staff. Queen's has served Hawaii since 1859 and holds an important place in the history of Hawaii.

Queen's is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and affiliated with the Voluntary Hospitals of America (VHA). The medical center is also approved to participate in residency training by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

Research Planning and Development

The department is managed in five main areas:

Clinical Trials Office
The primary role of the Clinical Trials Office (CTO) is to support physicians in conducting clinical trials by providing management, nursing, and administrative services.
Research Business Office
The Research Business Office (RBO) provides services to investigators in various scopes, some of which are: grant application support, fiscal and administrative support, and clinical trial agreement development & execution.
Research Regulatory Office
The Research Regulatory Office (RRO), administrates and supports the Research and Institutional Review Committee (RIRC) and the Animal Care Committee (ACC). In this regard, the group is charged with upholding regulatory policies and procedures for the protection of human and animal subjects.
Research Support Services
Research Support Services (RSS) provides pre-research support and post-clinical trial assistance to clinical research investigators. Pre-research support includes all activities to get your clinical trial or chart review, developed, reviewed, and underway. Post-clinical trial assistance would include analyzing and presenting your results.
Grants Development
Research administration supports investigators during every step of the development of research grant proposals. They can identify appropriate funding sources, edit grant proposals, and prepare grant applications for investigators.
